Flickbay

A typical journey and the findings from it:

Riya remembers that a movie whose trailer she saw and liked is out. She knows that some of her friends were also interested in it. She wants to book tickets for them to go and watch the movie.

Most users check online portals to see if seats are getting filled at their preferred theaters, and book at the venue itself if they aren't.

They go at specific times and days (after college, when a theatre has a weekly discount etc. These are overall fixed times, unless specifically going to meet someone/ for a special screening.

Users generally don’t plan to buy food or drinks or buy these in advance. These are more impulsive purchases done on the spot.

Coordinating for a larger groups is full of friction, due to varying schedules and preferences, the person making the plan having to coordinate for everyone via chat, etc.

People mostly have specific seat preferences, and will often opt for a different screening or theatre so that they get suitable seats.

When faced with unavailability of seats, they generally tend to try a different time and then day, rather than choosing a different theatre from the ones they frequent regularly.

How it Works

Home, my bookings:

Uses previous watches, most browsed genres, reviews and what viewers with similar tastes have watched to give personalised reommendations to create an engaging discovery platform.

A user can directly jump to the booking screens as well, in case they do not want to explore.

Lets people avoid the last minute scramble of searching for tickets on email/ message through the my bookings section that has e-tickets of all upcoming shows.

Movies, reviews:

All the details of a movie are presented as a long scroll.

Rate the movie feature via a notification after they've watched the movie improves the recommendations shown to other people with similar tastes.

Only two buttons (agree/disagree) used here to keep the tappable area high in a notification. If they disagree, then a larger notification can be shown asking for a rating.

Booking:

All the booking choices are presented on one screen to reduce the number of clicks. These can be autofilled as well, depending upon a user's past booking patterns.

If a user picks more than 2 seats, they are asked to enter the number of people. Flickbay uses this to automatically choose the remaining seats, saving time for people booking solo, as well as for a large group.

Initial seats can be automatically selected as well, if a user has shown very consistent preferences for seating.

They can adjust the theatre, date and time while selecting seats, to prevent back and forth if ideal seats aren't available.

Keeping the food and drinks selection optional saves time as compared to other platforms.

Plan with friends:

Plan with friends feature enables a user to send an invite to other users to efficiently create a plan that works for all without a lot of back and forth via text or switching between apps.

The other invitees have the option to propose changes on their own until all parties accept, taking the hassle of planning a booking that works for everyone away from just one person.

The app notifies user once everyone has confirmed, creates bookings in the chosen theatre and lets user confirm and jump to payment.
